Surface Grinding

For more than 30 years, customers have turned to Shasta for their surface grinding requirements.  Custom-designed Mid-West grinders provide unparalleled capabilities in eliminating surface defects on the skin of slabs, rounds, billets, blooms and ingots.  Our track-mounted configuration and flexible material handling capabilities allow us to handle the largest possible range of sizes and shapes.

Shasta’s experienced personnel and quality assurance staffs are dedicated to combine the exact abrasive selection and grinding and polishing techniques needed to provide the surface you expect.  We can provide finishes of 125 RMS or lower.

Grinding Department Specifications

• 300-foot main grinding line equipped with five 200 HP Mid-West surface track grinding machines.
• 90° and 45° grinding head angles provide flexibility to process most any alloy to specific surface finish requirements at high productivity rates.
• Semi-automatic and manual indexing provide a uniform and consistent grinding pattern across the piece. Indexes from 1/8-inch to 1-1/4-inch allow rough, dress or polish finishes.
• Head pressure and motor load are variable and can be set to customer’s specific requirements, where applicable.
• Flexible, in-line grinding pits allow processing of slab edges and round ends.
• Mid-West pipe and round grinder for 4-inch to 30-inch OD pipe including geo-thermals at various lengths. Adjustable handling rolls.
